We Are 20ft Conex Box Specialists

An empty 20-foot shipping container weighs approximately 5,000 pounds. You cannot safely move it with a standard pickup truck or a basic car hauler. You need industrial-grade equipment.

The Tilt-Bed Advantage for 20ft Units

Many transport companies use standard flatbed trucks, which forces you to hire an expensive crane or heavy-duty forklift at both your pickup and drop-off locations to lift the container on and off the truck.

Shift Containers utilizes specialized tilt-bed trailers. Our trailers hydraulically tilt backwards, allowing our powerful winches to gently slide your 20ft container directly onto the ground. This saves you thousands of dollars and eliminates the need for secondary equipment rentals.

Specs We Handle

  • 20ft Standard Containers: (20' Long x 8' Wide x 8.5' Tall)
  • 20ft High Cube Containers: (20' Long x 8' Wide x 9.5' Tall)
  • Single Trip & Used Bins: WWT (Wind & Water Tight) condition empty boxes.
  • Modified Pods: Specialized 20ft site offices or tool cribs.

20ft Transport FAQs

Specific details for preparing your 20-foot container for relocation.

How much does an empty 20ft container weigh? +

A standard empty 20ft shipping container weighs approximately 4,500 to 5,000 lbs. Because of this extreme weight, it requires specialized heavy-duty tilt-bed trailers to move safely.

How much clearance do you need to deliver a 20ft container? +

To safely slide a 20ft container to the ground, our trucks require a minimum of 60 to 75 feet of unobstructed, straight-line clearance to pull out from under it. We also require 16 feet of vertical height to clear power lines and tree branches.

Can you move a loaded 20ft container? +

No. For DOT weight compliance and the physical limitations of our tilt-bed hydraulic winches, we strictly transport completely empty 20ft conex boxes.

Do you move 20ft High Cube containers? +

Yes! While standard 20ft containers are 8.5 feet tall, we also have the proper equipment and routing expertise to transport 20ft High Cube containers, which are 9.5 feet tall.

How should I prepare my site for the delivery of a 20ft container? +

The delivery site must be level, relatively dry, and clear of all debris. We highly recommend placing wood blocks, railroad ties, or gravel pads where the four corner castings will sit to keep the container off the raw ground and prevent moisture entrapment and frame racking.

Do I need a permit to have a 20ft container on my property? +

Zoning regulations vary significantly by city and county across OR and WA. It is strictly your responsibility to check with your local planning department regarding permissions, setback requirements, or necessary temporary use permits before booking a delivery.
